While I consider myself an eclectic therapist—I’ll draw on all my therapeutic knowledge and skill to meet your individual needs—my approach to healing is grounded in the following modalities.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT is a mindfulness-based approach that emphasizes acceptance of difficult thoughts and emotions, while also encouraging clients to commit to actions aligned with their values. Through ACT, clients learn to cultivate psychological flexibility, allowing them to navigate life's challenges with resilience and authenticity.
Emotions Work
I find it essential in healing work to explore and honor the full range of human emotions, recognizing them as valuable messengers guiding us towards deeper understanding of our needs and connection to our values. By developing a compassionate relationship with our emotions, we can cultivate emotional resilience and live more authentically.
Parts Work
This is a way of describing the aspects of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Janina Fisher’s structural dissociation framework that I draw from. Parts work involves exploring and understanding the fragmented aspects or "parts" of an individual's psyche. These parts may represent different facets of the self, emotions, or responses to traumatic experiences. Through techniques such as visualization, dialogue and experiential exercises, clients work towards compassionately being with and meeting the needs of their parts to experience greater nervous system regulation and inner healing.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
This therapy uses eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, such as tapping, to reprocess memories that hold distress. Reprocessing memories in this way reduces their emotional intensity and associated symptoms, leading to healing through the release of old negative beliefs and bringing balance to one’s nervous system. EMDR is an evidence-based treatment for PTSD and can also be effective for anxiety and depressive symptoms. I was trained in Somatic and Attachment Focused (SAFE) EMDR, an approached that broadens the application of reprocessing to attachment-related issues.
Health At Every Size (HAES)
HAES is a movement that aims to decouple health and thinness. It emphasizes caring for one’s body in this moment, as it is, rather than striving for weight loss or attempting to manipulate one’s body size. HAES challenges societal norms and encourages a more inclusive approach to wellness that respects body diversity.
Intuitive Eating
With the disclaimer that nutritional recommendations are not in my scope of practice (and if you would like to work with a HAES-informed dietitian, I support that!) I can help you work with some of the aspects of Intuitive Eating, including rejecting diet culture, giving yourself full permission to eat and staying more mindfully in your body. This can to be a helpful approach for those in recovery from disordered eating or struggling with their relationship to food.
